Nainsukh 1710 – 1778) was an Indian painter. He was the younger son of the painter Pandit Seu and, like his older brother Manaku of Guler, was an important practitioner of Pahari painting, and has been called "one of the most original and brilliant of Indian painters".
Around 1740 he left the family workshop in Guler and moved to Jasrota, where he painted most of his works for the local Rajput ruler Mian Zorowar Singh and his son Balwant Singh until the latter's death in 1763. Nainsukh returned to religious subject matter, but retaining his stylistic innovations. By the end of his career, with an active family workshop continuing his style, he was probably not executing the works himself anymore, but leaving them to his children and nephew as his artistic heirs. Such works are often ascribed to the Family of Nainsukh.
Although a great part of his work may be lost, around a hundred works by Nainsukh survive, many in both Indian and Western museums. Four of these bear his signature, and several have inscribed titles or comments.
Nainsukh, a film based on his life directed by Amit Dutta released in 2010.
NUnlike his stylistically more conservative brother Manaku, who remained in Guler and closely conformed to the style of his father Seu, Nainsukh introduced many of the novel elements of Moghul painting into the traditional Pahari style employed by his family. His early work is very poorly documented, and his distinctive style emerges almost fully formed in the next phase of his career.

Singers
Seema Anil Sehgal
Petite and unassuming Seema Anil Sehgal, Mumbai- is an iconic Dogra ghazal singer from Jammu. She is a performer of superbly fabulous calibre.
She is not only an amazing artist, but she also has a deep and abiding interest in Urdu poetry and in Indo-Pak peace.
Having started singing at the prodigious age of eight, she was determined to purse a musical career even as youngster. With age and time, Seema’s voice has matured and, like old wine, has become richer and mellower.
Being multi-Lingual, Seema sings and composes with equal ease in Dogri, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.
When relations plummeted between the two countries following the nuclear tests of May 1998, Seema dedicated her new album ‘Sarhad’ to peace between the India and Pakistan. Indian Prime Minister A. B. Vajpayee presented the album, a compilation of Seema Sehgal’s rendering of the poetry of Ali Sardar Jafri, as a national gift to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the historic Lahore summit of Feb 1999.
Seema Anil Sehgal is the only singer in India – or Pakistan for that matter – to have composed and sung an entire concert on the poetry of Allama Iqbal, ‘Sitaron se aage jahan aur bhi hain’ (2003), produced as the first solo album based on Iqbal’s poetry.
She has also composed and sung concerts of renowned Urdu poets Mir Taqi Mir (1986) and Faiz Ahmed Faiz (1988).
Seema Anil Sehgal also released her album based on the poems of Ali Sardar Jafri, that was very received by followers of Jafri sahib, as well as her vast fan following.
Seema has always pushed the frontiers of her own art by attempting the offbeat, the unusual and even the difficult. Her name is associated with esoteric mehfils like the ones on Ghalib, Iqbal, Faiz and other masters of Urdu poetry, held regularly in Delhi and Mumbai. With her complete classical taiyari to back her, Seema has given to the ghazals gayaki her own unique definition.
Since the typical Shairi of Sharaab, Saaqui and maikhana doesn’t appeal to Seema’s eclectic taste, she’s always searching for better poets, often turning to the grand master in her quest for depth and true emotion.
Seema is not only an excellent singer & composer, but also a closest short story writer, house wife and mother.
Kudos, to her superlative singing she is equally popular among her fans of all age groups.

The Dogras, known for their simplicity, devotion, and warm-hearted nature, have a rich cultural heritage filled with vibrant folk traditions and festivals. Among these, Bach-Dua holds a special place in the hearts of Dogra women. Celebrated across Jammu region, Bach Dua is a deeply rooted folk festival dedicated to praying for the well-being and long life of children. On this auspicious occasion, mothers observe rituals and offer prayers to local folk deities, seeking their divine blessings for their children’s prosperity, happiness, and protection from evil. This festival reflects the strong faith, spiritual connection, and cultural richness of the Dogras, who have preserved their traditions for generations. Through folk songs, traditional offerings, and heartfelt prayers, women express their unconditional love and devotion, making Bach Dua a true celebration of motherhood and faith. Join us in exploring this beautiful tradition and experiencing the vibrant folklore of the Dogras! Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more insights into Dogri culture.
